Hightower Hideaway

Immersive Tropical Restaurant & Adventure Bar

This is a design concept. The Hideaway has not been built and has not been operationally tested. Imagery is concept work.

Four guests at a mezzanine table raising tiki mugs and glasses, with the illuminated Hightower Hideaway sign and the aircraft bar visible below
Mezzanine tables overlook the aircraft bar. The expedition board, the Crash-Site Burger, and a round of recovered formulas.
Bartender in a Hightower Hideaway apron stirring a drink at the copper bar built into the aircraft fuselage
The fuselage bar. Copper counter, salvaged gauges, and a service well built into the aircraft's forward section.
Large shared platter with grilled skewers, glazed ribs, coconut shrimp, spring rolls, tropical fruit and three dipping sauces
The Hightower Expedition Board, built for a crew of two to four.
A Night at the Hideaway

Six steps, only two of them required

  1. 01

    Arrival

Guests enter through the recovered hangar office and meet the first evidence that Rufus's last expedition ended badly.

  2. 02

    Ordinary Hospitality

The room works first as a comfortable restaurant, cocktail bar and listening lounge. Nothing is required of anyone.

  3. 03

    Optional Discovery

Menus, maps, radio logs and artifacts let curious guests start following the story on their own.

  4. 04

    Environmental Event

Lights shift, aircraft gauges move and a radio transmission briefly interrupts the normal atmosphere.

  5. 05

    Deeper Participation

Interested guests can compare evidence, speak with a character or follow a clue into the larger Convergence Points story.

  6. 06

    Departure

Guests leave with a recipe, field card, artifact or unresolved question that can lead them into the games and the Expedition Letters.

Operational Modes

One room, three settings

Ordinary Night

Atmospheric dining, cocktails and live music with passive environmental storytelling. No performers, no schedule, no participation asked for.

Programmed Night

Timed transmissions, lighting changes, performers and serialized story events layered over normal service.

Private Expedition

A ticketed mystery, corporate event or full-room interactive experience with the space given over to the story.

Lessons Carried Forward

From Who Killed Dr. Funk?

The produced mystery ran in a real venue with real guests. These are its findings, and they are the reason the Hideaway is designed the way it is. They are lessons from that night, not results from this concept, which has never been built.

  • Guests need freedom to choose their participation level.
  • Story media can be distributed throughout a working hospitality environment.
  • Physical interfaces invite investigation in a way signage does not.
  • Performers can guide the experience without controlling it.
  • Environmental events should interrupt the atmosphere briefly rather than halt normal service.
  • No single clue or effect should be required for a casual guest to enjoy the venue.

From the Expedition Kitchen

The full concept menu

From the Expedition Kitchen

  • The Hightower Expedition Board

Charred chicken skewers, glazed pork ribs, coconut shrimp, vegetable spring rolls, tropical fruit, pickled vegetables, and three house sauces. Built for sharing by a crew of two to four.

  • The Crash-Site Burger

A double smashed burger with smoked cheese, caramelized onions, pickles, shredded lettuce, and Hideaway sauce on a toasted brioche bun.

  • Whitaker's Sticky Ribs

Slow-cooked pork ribs with tamarind, ginger, brown sugar, citrus, and toasted sesame.

  • Funk's Questionable Experiments

Crispy cheese-and-potato croquettes with rotating sauces developed by Dr. Archibald Funk. Results may vary. Appetite generally improves them.

  • Huli-Huli Expedition Chicken

Fire-grilled chicken with ginger, garlic, pineapple, scallions, coconut rice, and grilled vegetables.

Recovered Cocktail Formulas

  • The Hightower Highball

Aged rum, Venetian Ginger Ale, lime, aromatic bitters, and a preserved citrus wheel.

  • Convergence Point

Dark rum, overproof rum, passion fruit, lime, cinnamon, and absinthe mist. Bright tropical flavor followed by something considerably stranger.

  • Anna Bell's Alibi

Gin, guava, grapefruit, lime, sparkling wine, and aromatic herbs. Elegant, convincing, and possibly incomplete.

  • Whitaker's Last Transmission

Bourbon, pineapple, ginger, black tea, lemon, and smoked spice, served beside a brief burst of intercepted radio audio.

  • The Archibald Funk

A rotating experimental cocktail built around an unusual seasonal ingredient. Every version gets a numbered field-test card.

Temperance Expeditions

The nonalcoholic list gets the same glassware, garnish, and theater as the cocktails.

  • Ginger Flight 9000

Venetian Ginger Ale, lemon, honey, aromatic spice, and fresh mint.

  • The Junior Navigator

Pineapple, passion fruit, lime, vanilla, and sparkling water.

  • The Uncharted Garden

Cucumber, basil, lime, green tea, and tonic.
